Just got back from a beautiful but tiring mountain bike ride up in Park City. Not sure why I thought that riding at that elevation for my second ride of the year sounded like a good idea, but I did and barely survived.
I went with my friend Kari, who I met in my natural childbirth class. She gave birth to a boy 10 days after Cohen and she too had a c-section. (Incidentally, her sister-in-law is my new boss.) She's an AMAZING biker. AMAZING. She used to race and is on a team that teaches other wannabes like me how to ride and how to get better at it. I have a girl crush on her and her mad biking skills. Anyway, she left me in her dust...well, not really. Don't you have to be riding close to someone to be in their dust? I was not in her dust.
It was great to get out and breathe. And I think it's motivated me to get myself back into shape.
Don't laugh but I honestly thought that I'd be back to my pre-pregnancy body at 8 weeks post-partum. Silly girl. While I fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes and am a 1lb or two less than pre-Cohen, my body is nowhere near what it used to be. Not that I was a machine, but I had nice abs and some muscle definition.
The only challenge is this. When to exercise? Walking with Cohen isn't cutting it. I cannot get out of bed before 6:45. Simply cannot. Humanly impossible. And I don't want to miss a minute with Cohey Bear after work. And when 7:30 (C's bedtime) rolls around, I'm ready to relax, not get my heart rate elevated.
So I need to figure that all out. How to get my body back but not compromise my time with my favourite boy ever, my husband, or my favourite past-time, sleeping. Maybe I need to get myself a jogging stroller and get out and run.
Those of you faithful readers that have kids, when did you get your body back? Or should I just face that fact that I might never get it back to where it used to be?
Anyway, here's proof that mama is back in the saddle.
sweet checks. I am sure that even YOU would leave me in the dust. I am such a pansy rider... haha... Glad you are back on the bike. Give me a holler sometime + I will watch lil Co-Co so you can ride on like a Saturday or Sunday? (:
ReplyDeleteWell, Kristyn, I hate to tell you but the body never quite acts like it did before. Even if it looks like it.. My body started looking like it used to when Colin turned 9 months, and 3 weeks later we got pregnant and I've been getting huge again ever since. Good for you for getting back on the bike! Are you still nursing? I haven't been keeping up on the blog, sorry! If you are still nursing/ pumping since you're back at work things won't get back to normal until after that's over usually. I nursed 2 months into this pregnancy, and I just about died. Too much energy output and not enough input. Now its great. Just getting huge while chasing my walker around!!! Take care and take a ride for me!!
ReplyDeleteOh golly. After #1, I was in the pre-preggo jeans around 6 months. BUT I made the huge mistake of continuing to eat as much as I could as he weaned himself, so I packed on a little more pudge. Don't make that mistake. THEN, I get pregnant when #1 in 13 months old and now that #2 is 7 months, I'm okay with being a size bigger (and getting new clothes) than I was when it all started. Chasing around a toddler while holding a giant baby has helped, but I still desperately want a waistline. I despise my belly flab/skin/roll - yuck! But, you're right, I have no idea when to find the time.
