Where to begin?

It's been so long, I honestly don't know if I can remember all that's been going on around Hancock Manor the last month. And I also don't know if you really care. You probably don't, so I'll try not to bore you with the mundane.

Let's see, we had a great Easter Brunch one week late, of course. I just can't seem to do anything on time anymore. I'll post photos this week. Little c had his first Easter egg hunt and found a whopping 2 eggs, which was plenty--one for each hand. We milked those eggs for a few weeks by hiding them around the yard and seeing if he could find them. He actually found one today that I had forgotten about. Ah, fun with toddlers.

Little c is sporting some fancy new teeth too. 8 to be exact. He's got a real mouthful now. Big C keeps wanting to give him a steak to try them out, but my little vegetarian will have nothing to do with it. But he IS trying them out on the kids at school. So much so that we're getting incident reports on a weekly basis. Not sure the reason. I don't think it's because he's teething. I think we've got an aggressive one on our hands.

The little man is also having more tantrums and hitting us or throwing stuff at us when we say no or try to redirect him from what he shouldn't be doing (climbing into the fireplace, climbing into the dishwasher, pulling all the toilet paper off the roll, you know, naughty toddler stuff). I don't have a plan for how to discipline him yet. I need to talk to more moms and do some reading of books. I'll take any suggestions you have. Just leave them in the comments. I think first up will be "Love & Logic". Let's just see if it will work on a 17 month old.

Climbing onto the dining room table and trying to hang from the chandelier is a new activity around here. And the spice rack is his new BFF. We cannot keep him out of it, nor is there anyway we can keep him from opening it (it's right beside the oven and slides out). Saying "no" and again, redirecting him, is not working. Maybe I should replace the jars of spices with mini vacuum cleaners that turn on as soon as he opens the drawer--you should see how fast he hightails it out of a room when I pull that badboy out.

Oh, and we had our first vomit experience the other day. We woke up Saturday morning to a boy covered in corn, beans and sweet potatoes. Looked like he had thrown up sometime in the night and rolled around in it. Didn't cry. Didn't make any noise to warn us that something was going down (or coming up I should say). He then proceeded to have the runs every 15 minutes all day and had the worst diaper rash ever. It was so bad that we decided to air him out and let him go without a diaper on. It had been awhile since he's had an explosion so we put him on a towel on Big C's lap while they watched Baby Einstein. Well, that was a bad move as we soon discovered. Not only did he let loose on Daddy, but when I picked him up run upstairs with him, he crapped all the way up the stairs, through the kitchen, down the hall and in his room, screaming the entire time. He was covered, I was covered, and Daddy was covered. Poor kid. But he recovered and was his happy self yesterday and today.

And he got his second haircut ever. He started screaming as soon as we walked in the joint. Screamed the whole time, even while sitting on my lap to get the cut. I think we're going to let him grown it out.

It's been raining a lot this spring. The wettest spring we've had since 150 years ago in fact. Breaking records left and right. Makes for a stir crazy toddler, with stir crazy parents. There's only so many times you can take your child to Barnes & Noble so they can wander around the kids section pulling books off shelves and waiting patiently for the big kids to finish playing with Thomas.

And finally, our big news is that Big C has been accepted into the MBA program at Westminster College here in SLC this fall. Big stuff. We're thrilled and scared, all at the same time.

There you have it. You're all caught up on all things Hancock. And now a photo of the one that delights us every day. One thing remains consistent, those cheeks!DSC_0783

We're still alive!!!

Wow, I cannot believe I haven't posted anything since Easter! Wow! I just realized tonight I haven't even turned on the home laptop in about 3 weeks. Where has the time gone?

Updates coming soon since the forthcoming long weekend is supposed to be cold and rainy. I see a lot of catching up in my future!

In the meantime, a photo of C Bear for your viewing pleasure.DSC_0276

Two years ago today

Today marked a very special day for us. It seems very fitting that it fell on Easter this year, one of the most important holy days in Christianity, signifying new life and hope.

Two years ago today we discovered that we were going to receive a very special gift, the gift of Cohen Gray Hancock, a child we had tried and hoped for for two years.

Little did I know what a gift he would be and that we would never be the same people we were two years ago. He has changed us for the better and he has brought more laughter and more joy into our lives than we could have ever imagined, and I hear this is only the beginning!

As I rocked and sang to him last night and prayed over him as he drifted off to sleep, tears of gratitude and joy rolled down my cheeks and onto his. I was, and still am, so overwhelmed with the goodness of my God, who heard my cries, who saw all of my tears, who didn't turn his back when I yelled and screamed and accused him of abandoning me all those months leading up to Cohen's creation.

Jesus is the giver of new life and the author of hope. And I will be forever grateful and forever changed because of his sacrifice and miraculous resurrection. And I will be forever grateful and forever changed because of the gift of Cohen.

I hope you found something to celebrate today. I know I did!Happy Easter

Happy Friday

Many of you are probably enjoying a day off today. Not so down here. Utah does not include Good Friday or Easter Monday in the holiday line up, which is so strange since it's such a religious state and there's no separation of church and state. No worries though--I'm going to make it a short day at work today seeing as no one will be there and I have a million things to do for our busy weekend.

We've got a 4th birthday party tonight, little c's first easter egg hunt tomorrow a.m. followed by a wedding in the afternoon/evening, and my Easter Brunchapalooza on Sunday.

As I'm typing this, the little man is still sleeping. He must know the busy-ness that lies ahead and is resting up for it. Good boy.

Whatever your weekend plans include, I hope you have a wonderful weekend spent marveling at the gift of sacrifice and celebrating the amazing gift of new life with family and friends.DSC_0262

I left my heart in San Francisco

Little C and I just got back last night from a quick trip to SFO. Daddy stayed home and worked on the basement, building a wine cellar for our 3 bottles of wine.

While there, we played at a lot of playgrounds, got licked in the face many times by a big old yellow lab named Bailie, had a dance party in little c's new bff's crib, wore matching clothes as new bff, slept
hard, ate even harder, crashed a nerd party (okay, little c did not do that, but Mommy did) and enjoyed some down time in a great city with great friends. It was much needed and very rewarding. We're already looking at our calendar to see when we can do it again.

Little c was a rock star on both the flight there and home again. Didn't cry and was very entertaining to the other passengers, especially when he did the chicken dance. Actually, I think he was a rock star all weekend long. He just rolled with the laid back schedule and thoroughly enjoyed meeting Sophia (6) and Parker (17 months), Bailie and Shelly (S & P's Mom).

But it's back to reality and schedules and coordinating drop-offs and pick-ups and obsessing over what to make for dinner as soon as I wake up.

So until we make it back to SFO, we'll be enjoying these memories and looking at the photos of a well-spent weekend.DSC_0029
